Sitting by the remnants of the campfire with a stiff breeze whipping up from the south. It is a balmy 8 degrees celcius though.
Most of the Scouts arrived at 6:30 tonight with a few earlier. It was very hectic at first. Everyone laying claim to a spot on the cabin floor.
Then a funny thing happened. In ones and twos they started asking for tents to sleep in. Originally, only two Scouts seemed interested in tenting. The boy and another hearty lad who is in his first year in Troop but a veteran of Scouting.
Both were soloing it. The three Scouters onsite, including myself, were soloing in tents as well. However, the other 14 Scouts, it was believed, wanted to stay in the cabin. Well, we only brought 3 other tents. In the end 9 more wanted to tent. Unfortunately, one lad ended up feeling a bit off, he thinks from his dental visit earlier today. So, to play it safe, he reluctantly changed his mind and moved back to the cabin. Only 6 of 16 Scouts ended up in the cabin. Pretty darned good for the end of November.
We are not worried about them being cold. They all have some form of extra bedding. Plus, we laid on chili for a late night snack. They now all have their own methane heaters to keep warm. I hope they all opened their tent flies a bit. I would not want them to asphyxiate on the fumes!? blbbl
