canadian scout jamboree (cj) - day one

What a day. And not necessarily in a good way.

The boy and I were up early and organised and were at our rendezvous with our Group on time and on target.

Our drive to the staging area was on time and on target. That is where things changed.

Our Scottish Guides were picked up from their various locations and went off to meet us at the staging area. There were sent directly to Jamboree location instead, without their tents or food or cooking gear. No problem, we will see them soon. This was 12:00 noon.

Due to various logistical miscalculations, we did not leave the staging area, with all the food, cooking gear, tents, and the remainder of the rest of the gear, until 5:00 pm. That put us at the Jamboree site at 6:00 pm. This included processing as well.

We made our way down a muddy track on foot, I mean mud bath muddy, with some of our gear. We had been assured that, as we had gotten boned at the staging area, our gear would be loaded up in a pickup truck and brought to our site right away.

Two hours later, due to other logistical errors, our gear was loaded up and sent to our site. Well, most of our gear. There was enough gear left behind at the entry/registration area that three of us had to slug one-and-a-half kilometres through the mud with it to get it to our even muddier camp site.

We set up the bulk of our camp in the dark, in the mud. We will finish the rest in the morning. We were lucky that we got a hand with our supper. That saved us from getting it out that much later than would have been advisable.

All in all, everyone is having a fabulous time, particularly the Youth.

I just need to remember to smile and wave, just smile and wave. blbbl
