legs two and three complete

What a day.

On the road before 7:00 am.

However, in the first few minutes on the highway, we hear a thud on the truck. Then a series of smaller thuds. What the hell is that? Oh yeah. I know. The trim on the top of the windscreen was loose the day before and I put it back in place, it must have come out. Sue enough, it did. Some gorilla tape and good to go.

About four hours in, just before stopping for fuel and a stretch, a bird flies smack in to the middle of the windscreen. It hit so hard the crap was knocked out of it. Literally. No cracks or holes in the windscreen. The bird though, I am sure is written off.

After that, no major incidents except Google maps being very secretive about directions.

We hit Ghromann Knives in Pictou and picked up some field knives for the wife, the boy, and myself. The #3 model with closed flap sheath. Also, a knife for a fellow Scouter from  a our old Group. Leg two complete.

On the way to Shubie Campground in Dartmouth while we were passing several very slow vehicles, one of them, while we were beside them, starts to move in to our lane. The space we were occupying. I swerve over to the far left shoulder as far as I will dare and simultaneously lay on the horn. A mildly surprised look on the driver's face and they move back in to the right hand lane.

If they would have struck us, we would surely have died. The median ditch was big, deep, and water logged. I figured with the trajectory we would have been sent on due the slope of the road, the turn we were in and all the other variables, if we did not bottom out in the ditch in a tragic heap, we could very well have ended up smashing in to oncoming traffic on the other side of the road.

Well, obviously we survived. So, other than Google Maps telling us to take some wrong exits, one of which we did take, the rest of the drive was uneventful.

Got checked in at the campground and set up in the yurt. It is quite nice and spacious. It has two futon pull-out couches in it too. Very comfy. Leg three complete.

Here for two days. The Tran-Canada Trail goes right past us, so hopefully we can check it out tomorrow.

Now, time for bed. blbbl
