waiting and a day of rest

With no major driving today and no big plans, the boy and I slept in until just before 8:30 am.

We had some oatmeal and just goofed about for a bit. Then we set out to check out some trails, literally right behind our yurt.

There is the Trans-Canada and trails along the Shubenacadie Canal. There is also a trail that went to a small complex of shops.

We headed to the shops via the trails as there was supposed to be an "outdoors" store there. Well, it was one of those "fashion" shops for not-really-outdoor clothing that I have griped about in the past and some really expensive packs. We were in there for about ninety seconds.

We returned to the Trans-Can and then the trail along the old canal. Some wonderful foliage and many feeders for birds and squirrels. These are very fancy trails. Wide and well groomed with fine gravel. Easy hiking. If you are in Dartmouth or Halifax, I recommend checking them out for easy and leisurely hiking. But they are probably packed on weekends. Still though, worth a gander.

We met a Scouter and his family from the 27th Guelph Scouts camping only a few sites down from us. Great people, very friendly.

We skipped lunch and just lounged about. Some minor chores to prep for the Jamboree tomorrow. Then a reception with our hosting Group - 1st Perthshire Estates Scouts, the Scottish Girl Guides, and the 4th Midland Scouts from Ontario. Great and wonderful people all.

Back to the yurt and all but ready for the Jamboree. We have also realised that we brought way, way too much gear. Even discounting the maybe stuff that we knew we would probably leave in the truck. Then again, when static camping and having a vehicle big enough to hold it all, I would rather have too much than be caught short.

However, the boy and I decided to go leaner the next time we do something like this. We are already discussing the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia in 2019 (WJ19) and how we can go as independents if our Scout Group decides not to go and plan out a leisurely drive down with deliberate stops at points of interest along the way. If at all possible, depending on if Scouts Canada would even allow us to not travel with the Canadian Contingent. We will see, we will see. blbbl
